The Trenton Summer Research Project at TCNJ funded by the National Conferences on Undergraduate Research and the Lancy Foundation emphasize interdisciplinary community-engaged research to cultivate ties with the city of Trenton. This summer I worked with Sarah Cunningham on the program's first art-based project. My involvement came in three parts: creating a mosaic for a neighborhood park, volunteering for ArtWorks' "Art All Night" exhibition, and painting a large-scale mural for Trenton's West Ward Center. All three projects allowed me to meet and collaborate with city officials and the residents of Trenton by focusing on the impact public art can have on city and its people. I learned so much from the people I met, and learned more about myself as I became more independent in my artistic endeavors.

Artist Statement:

My work is based around worlds and mythologies I have created. I have always been inspired by fantasy, and as a child it was only natural for me to begin to create my own stories. Over the years it has grown into a world that is monumental in scope, and that world is the driving force behind the majority of my work. Many of my images are based around legends or specific characters within this world, and the world as a whole is based around my personal philosophies, as is the style work in. I am fascinated with the strange, the macabre, and the beautiful; the universe by nature is as cruel as it is magnificent. People often say my work has a disturbing undertone, even when the image itself is innocuous and this is intentional on my part. I work in style I call surreal fantasy, attempting to blend psychological undertones with aesthetics. My work is primarily digital painting, though I also do some acrylic work and will be using pencils this semester as well.

Hi everyone :D

At the beginning of the summer I wrote my first full workshop for ImagineFx magazine, a publication I’ve been contributing to for about a year now. This was the finished painting [digital]:

Digital Art Masters Vol. 3 just came out; I’m one of 60 artists included. Right now I’m doing some work for Fantasy Flight Games, but I can’t show it.

Other than that I’ve been chipping away at my pile of personal works in progress and doing a lot of studies. Won't clutter the blog but you can look around here.

See you all soon :D

Jaaaaames

Well, this summer I did some work for my friend's band, making an album cover for them, which was mostly done in illustrator. That looked like this:
But I've really been trying to focus on 3D animation work, and spent the majority of the summer working for another professor doing small little objects for a video game he's been working on. I did most of the objects on this site. I also have some things that I did in my animation classes here and here.

And last semester I was in a web design class where I ended up making this groovy little diddy, you can sign up and post your favorite website.

I think thats it,
James :)
